January 2017 Book of the Month Unboxing

I’ve been a member of the book of the month club since August of 2016 and I’m hooked. As long as there is a book of the month club I will be a loyal member, buying up books quicker than I can read them. Book of the month is a subscription box offering newly released, hardcover books. Each month judges, including usually a celebrity guest judge, choose five books as options. The book choices are announced the first of the month and then subscribers can choose one of the five as their “book of the month.” Subscribers can also add up to two additional books for $9.99 each. I almost always add at least one additional book because who can beat $10 for a brand new hardcover?! There’s a few reasons I chose book of the month over any of the other bookish subscription boxes.

1. They cater to adults and don’t just offer YA options. Many of the bookish subscription boxes I’ve seen are geared to the YA crowd. I love YA but I generally read adult fiction the most.

2. You have the power to pick your book. Many bookish subscription boxes seem to be a “one size fits all” situation, sending every member the same book. I don’t like this because I may have no interest in the book they send, or more likely I already own it.

3. The box is just books – no fillers. I don’t need “other bookish goods” like pencils or pins. Sure, they’re cute but they will ultimately end up in a junk drawer.

4. Instagram. Enough said. Book of the Month posts the most gorgeous bookstagrams. I stalked their insta for months before signing up.

My January Box

The Most Dangerous Place On Earth by Lindsey Lee Johnson

Young high school teacher, Molly Nicoll becomes intrigued by the secret lives of her students and the middle school tragedy that connects all of them. I definitely knew I had to pick this one as a high school teacher myself.

Girls In The Moon by Janet McNally

A YA novel about a girl from a rock n roll family who goes to visit her sister in New York and figure out who she really is. I love a good coming of age tale and this one sounds like too much fun.

And last but definitely not least….

The Grownup by Gillian Flynn

Book of the Month is awesome and decided to surprise it’s members with this special edition of Flynn’s short story. I was so excited to get my hands on this as a HUGE fan of Gillian Flynn.

Let me know if you’re a member and if so which books you chose this month. And if you aren’t a member you should seriously go check them out. Go scroll through their instagram and get lost in all the beautiful book pics.

xo,

Nikki ♡
